The Nova Scotia Educational Leadership Consortium (NSELC), in partnership with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Education (DEECD) and school boards, is pleased to offer the Nova Scotia Aspiring Leaders Program. The program was developed in response to an identified priority by Nova Scotia School Boards and to the commitment to excellence in teaching and leadership in the Nova Scotia Action Plan for Education.

This professional learning opportunity is designed to support teachers, mentors, and department heads who are interested in becoming effective school principals and/or vice principals.

The Aspiring Leaders Program extends over 14 months beginning in August 2017, and includes two summer institutes and seven Friday/Saturday Seminars. An eight-day residency program is integrated throughout the program. A certificate will be granted following a culminating assessment and successful completion of all program components.

Program Components

1. Summer Institute 2017:

August 8-10, 2017 Atlantica Oak Island Resort, N.S.

Total Cost: $720.00 plus HST

- The Artisan Teacher Conference with Mike Rutherford (two days) $470.00 Plus HST

(ALP participants will join other teachers and administrators from around the province for this.)

- Program orientation and Insights Discovery (one day) $250.00 plus HST

2. Friday/Saturday Seminars:

Seminars will be held with Friday sessions running from 1:00 to 5 p.m. and full day Saturday sessions. The exception will be Seminar 6, in April 2018, which will run for two full days. Seminar locations will be determined based on expressions of interest. The residency program will be held within individual school boards.

3. Seminars and Summer Institutes 2018 (Cost: $225.00 plus HST for each seminar and the Student Services Summer Institute 2018)

The total cost of the full 14-month program is $2520.00 + HST per participant.

Application Process: Applications are available through participating school board websites and selections will be based on identified criteria and an interview by a panel of board personnel. Please note that the deadline for applications is April 14, 2017. For more information on the program and/or the application process, contact the Human Resources Department in your board.
